Hollow Box Beams for Westchester County Ceilings

Box beams are the decorative, or faux, kind of ceiling beam. Each one is a hollow U, two sides and a bottom, that reads as a solid timber from below. Reclaimed Creations makes wood box beams to order at your dimensions, with a two to three week lead time and a four beam minimum, and quotes delivery to your Westchester County zip code. We build and supply the beams. The install is done by you or your contractor, not by us.

See It In Person

Getting Box Beams to a Westchester County Address

To quote delivery to a Westchester site, we need the site's zip code and the length of each beam. Standard lengths run up to 20 feet, and long beams change what freight costs. Delivery is then priced in with the beams.

Our delivery area covers New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, and freight reaches anywhere in the country. Westchester County is in New York, so either one works for a Westchester site.

You can also collect the beams at our Hopewell Junction yard at no charge. Pickup is by appointment only, so call first and the order will be staged. Samples are there too, if you want to see them in person before you order.

Picking a Face for a Westchester Room

Start from the color you want overhead. White pine is the palest, near cream in its raw state, and the lightest to handle. Rustic white oak comes smooth faced, with knots, mineral streak, and grain variation, or circle sawn, with the mill blade marks left in and the color held to a narrow range. Hemlock is the most weathered of the four. All four are built the same way, kiln dried, lock mitered, and made to your dimensions. What changes is the wood and its face.

Order the whole ceiling in one go. Beams from the same run keep a consistent color and character from one to the next. A set of box beams also matches better than a set of solid reclaimed beams can.

Box Beams and a Reclaimed Mantel in One Room

If the same room is getting a reclaimed mantel, choose the beams and the mantel together. Of the four box beams, the reclaimed hemlock carries the most weathering. It was salvaged from mushroom houses, where it spent decades in damp air and low light, and it comes rough faced or circle sawn.

None of the beams are stained or sealed when you get them. You finish them on site, so the color can be chosen with the mantel and the rest of the room in front of you. For the mantel itself, see our Westchester County fireplace mantels.

Decorative Beams That Carry No Load

A box beam carries no load. It weighs a fraction of a solid timber and costs less than one, and you are adding beams to a ceiling, not building structure to hold them up.

The installer fastens a ledger board to the joists first, fits the beam over it, and secures the beam through its sides. On most ceilings that is work for two people, not a crane, since the beam is hollow and light.

The hollow center also gives wiring, conduit, or sprinkler line a place to run out of sight.

If you have the structure to carry a solid timber and want genuine age, axe marks, and mortise pockets, look at solid reclaimed beams instead.

Choosing a Profile for Your Ceiling Height

A profile is three numbers, one for each face you see from below. On a lower ceiling, look at a 3 by 6 by 3. The sides drop 3 inches and the face underneath is 6 inches wide, so the beam hangs half as far down as a 6 by 6 by 6 and does not crowd the room.

Where the room has the height, a 6 by 6 by 6 is 6 inches on every face. Neither is a limit. Any size can be built, and because a custom order is built to your dimensions anyway, an odd size takes no longer.

What to Hand Your Installer

Pull these together for whoever hangs the beams, you or your contractor, before the beams arrive:

  • The number of beams, with the length and profile of each
  • A layout for the ceiling, so the ledger boards can go on the joists first
  • A list of which beams will hide wiring, if any
  • A finish plan, as the beams come raw and get finished in place

Frequently Asked Questions About Box Beams in Westchester County

For how a box beam mounts, how long beams are seamed, and how well a set matches, see the wood box beams FAQ.

Do you deliver box beams to Westchester County?+

Yes. Westchester County is in New York, and we deliver throughout the state. Give us the site's zip code and each beam's length, and delivery is quoted with the order. Freight and free pickup at the yard, by appointment only, are the other two options.

Do you install box beams in Westchester County?+

No. We build and supply them only. You or your contractor hangs them, and the installer list on this page covers what to have ready.

How many beams do I have to order?+

Four at least. Beams are built to order and shipped from the mill, so four is the smallest run we build. If the ceiling needs more, order them all together so the set comes from one run.

How long does an order take?+

Two to three weeks from the order. Your beams are built for the job, so an odd size takes no longer than a standard one. Depending on inventory, we may have a few in stock, so reach out and ask.

Quote Your Beams to a Westchester Zip Code

Start with the Westchester zip code of the site and how you want the beams: delivered, shipped by freight, or collected at the yard. Then add the option, the profile, a count, and each beam's length. Each order gets its own quote, and if you choose delivery, the quote includes it. Send it all through the contact form, or call (845) 232-8943.
