Reclaimed Hemlock Box Beams with Original Weathering

Our hemlock box beams are salvaged from local mushroom houses, and they keep the weathering they picked up there. It is the most characterful face in the line, a step beyond the three rustic options. Hollow, lock mitered, built to order in any size, and supplied unfinished. Two to three weeks.

Where It Comes From

Mushroom houses are long low growing buildings, and the hemlock inside them spent decades in constant humidity with very little sun. That is an unusual way for wood to age, and it produces a look you do not get from barn siding or fence board.

The color variation is heavy. You get cracks, weather lines, and knot holes across the face, and the tone shifts board to board within a single beam.

How It Reads in a Room

This is the one that looks oldest. Set beside the rustic options it reads a step further along, because weathering marks a face in a way that knots and grain alone do not.

If the room already has reclaimed material in it, siding or paneling or a mantel, the hemlock is the beam that will sit with it. If everything else in the room is new, the hemlock can read as the only aged element and that can work either for you or against you.
