Reclaimed White Oak Flooring in Grade A

Call (845) 232-8943

Reclaimed Creations supplies grade A reclaimed white oak flooring, milled from salvaged fence board, reclaimed beams, and other reclaimed stock. Grade A is the cleaner of our two grades. It is special order, it ships unfinished, and lead time is two to three weeks.

Why White Oak

White oak has a closed grain. The pores are plugged with tyloses, which is the reason coopers use it for barrels and boat builders use it below the waterline. On a floor that means it handles moisture better than red oak and moves less across the seasons.

The color sits in the tan to light brown range and it grays as it ages rather than pinking. It is also the harder of the two oaks we carry, which matters in a kitchen or a hallway that takes traffic.

See It In Person

What Grade A Looks Like

You still get color variation, cracks, weather lines, and knot holes, because the board weathered outdoors for decades. There is less of it across a pack and the swing between one board and the next is narrower.

Grade A suits a room where you want the floor to read as a floor rather than as the feature of the room. It is also the easier grade to work with if you are matching reclaimed flooring to existing millwork, cabinetry, or trim, since the color range is tighter and easier to predict.

If You Want More Character

Grade A is the restrained option. If you look at it and want more, rustic white oak flooring in grade B carries heavier weather lines and a wider color range, and the circle sawn version adds mill blade texture on top of that.

Most people who come to the yard undecided pick after seeing both grades side by side. It is worth the trip.

Ordering and Lead Time

This is a special order product. We do not carry it in the yard. Tell us the square footage, the width, and the grade, and we will quote the floor and the freight in one number.

Allow two to three weeks from the day the order goes in. Minimum order is 500 square feet, and you should add 10 to 15 percent above your measured square footage for waste.

Orders under 1,000 square feet carry a small order charge, quoted with your order.

You are welcome to pick up at our yard in Hopewell Junction at no charge, or we will quote delivery to your site.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is white oak different from red oak?+

White oak is harder, handles moisture better, and runs tan to light brown with a tight grain. Red oak is warmer, with a pink undertone and a more open grain pattern. Side by side the difference is obvious. On performance, white oak is the more stable of the two.

Does it come finished?+

No. It ships unfinished, with no stain and no sealer. Sanding and finishing happen on site after installation.

Can I stain it?+

White oak takes stain more evenly than red oak, because the closed grain absorbs at a steadier rate. Have your installer test on offcut from your own pack before committing to a color, since reclaimed board does not behave like new stock.

Can I mix widths?+

Yes. Mixed width floors are common with reclaimed material and they suit the random length look. Tell us the proportion you want when you request the quote.

Will the boards match?+

No, and they are not meant to. The board is graded so character stays consistent through the pack, but color and figure vary board to board. That variation is the product.
