About Reclaimed Creations

Call (845) 232-8943

My name is Scott. I own and run Reclaimed Creations out of a yard in Hopewell Junction, New York, and I have been doing it since 2014. Before that I was making furniture and mantels for friends and family out of whatever good wood I could find.

It Started With Furniture

For years I built things for people I knew. A dining table for a friend, a mantel for a cousin, shelving for somebody's kitchen. Nothing commercial. I just liked working with wood, and I liked old wood best, because it already had a shape and a history that new lumber does not.

Finding the material was the hard part. You cannot buy hundred-year-old oak at a lumberyard. So I started looking for it.

The Barn Upstate

The first barn I took down was upstate. Somebody was clearing the property and the building was coming down either way.

What got me was watching the material get thrown away. Hand-hewn oak beams, old-growth pine siding, boards that had been holding up a roof since before anybody alive was born, all headed for a dumpster because taking a barn apart carefully costs more than knocking it over.

That is the whole reason this business exists. Not a plan. Just the feeling that throwing that away was a shame, and that somebody would want it if they knew it was there.

What We Do Now

We take down barns, mills and old buildings across the Northeast and bring the material back to the yard. Everything gets sorted, kiln-dried and surface-washed before it goes out.

From there it becomes reclaimed barnwood siding, wall paneling, structural and decorative beams, and fireplace mantels cut to whatever size somebody needs.

We serve New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts, and we ship nationwide. People have driven a long way to pick through the racks in person, which I take as a good sign.

Why Old Wood Is Different

Old-growth timber came from trees that grew slowly over centuries in forests that no longer exist. The grain is tighter, the wood is denser, and it is more stable than anything cut today. You cannot grow it back. What is standing in old barns is what is left.

Then there is what a hundred years of weather does to a board. The gray on a piece of siding is not a stain. It is a century of sun and rain on the south face of a barn, and no finish reproduces it.

That is the part people respond to. Not that it is reclaimed. That it looks like nothing else.

The Salvage Part

Every barn we take apart is material that does not go to a landfill and lumber that does not have to be cut. I am not going to oversell that. We are one yard in the Hudson Valley and we are not solving anything on our own.

But it is real, and it is the reason I would rather do this slowly and carefully than fast. Taking a barn down by hand takes far longer than knocking it over. It is the only way the material survives.

Come See the Yard

Photographs only go so far with this material. Color shifts with the light and texture is something you have to put a hand on. The yard is in Hopewell Junction and you are welcome to come pick your own boards.

It is by appointment, so call ahead and somebody will walk the racks with you. Most people who come out end up choosing something different from what they had in mind, which is usually a good thing.

If you are working on something and you are not sure whether reclaimed material suits it, ask. I would rather tell you honestly that it is the wrong fit than sell you something that does not work.

Great experience, very helpful and professional. I had a specific vision and type of board I was looking for and they turned over nearly every board in the yard to find me the perfect boards. Fairly priced, quick to respond and very helpful, would recommend!
